A National Nod to Flatbush Style

Flatbush, Brooklyn Indie Fashion

I enjoy this vlog: Style-Intersection. I wish I watched it more consistently.

Flatbush was my home for five years. I moved there because I found an apartment a week or so before I had to vacate the dorm I was staying in for the summer, but I ended up falling in love with the neighborhood. A heavily West Indian locale, I learned a lot about another part of the African Diaspora while residing there.

By the time I left Flatbush I knew that I liked my roti with chickpeas, played J’oevert leading up to The West Indian Day/Labor Day Parade (and got all painted up), and understood that a barbecue included fish in my neighborhood. I’m glad it got a positive nod in The New York Times.
