You Laugh and Then You Feel Old

The English as a Second Language teacher I co-teach with recently taught the kids (and me, let’s be real) about the present perfect tense. Using U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” the kids had to find examples of the present perfect tense in the song. Afterwards, they got to watch this video.

My favorite part of it all was when one kid raised his hand (OK, really he called out) and said, “Isn’t it dangerous to hold up lighters like that?”

My reply: “That’s what people used to hold up at concerts before cell phones existed.”

I was met with stunned stares. A time before cell phones? I must be really old.

And my “old” behind still loves this song because of its searching theme. That’s me to a T!
