There are moments and places that take you back to your childhood. For me, if my legs are swinging from one of my grandma’s stools, I’m in the midst of a childhood memory. If I see frogs hopping around I’m reminded of the summer my brother and I caught frogs only to release them later because they were losing weight under our tutelage. These are triggers I know. I wasn’t expecting to be smiling and reminiscing when I accompanied my brother, sister-in-law, and nieces to Main Event, a place with bowling alleys, an arcade, laser tag, and joy. As my nieces ran amidst enough dancing lights to induce a seizure in a blind person, I found myself laughing and enjoying myself too. Texas has been super low-key this time around. It’s been nothing but family.
