The Trip that Started It All, Australia Introduction

When I was twenty I decided to live exactly 8,982 miles away from home.

I left Houston, Texas, USA for Melbourne, Australia as a one semester study abroad student. Never mind that it was my first time outside the continental United States and that I was traveling by myself.

As a person who loves traveling as much as I love writing I find it only fitting to discuss the trip that started it all: Australia.

Australia is a crown jewel in my memories. A women’s group I was a part of voted me Most Likely to Overstay Her Visa because I had such an amazing time. I had a happiness and peace there that I had never before experienced.

I haven’t been back since that college stay, and a part of me is scared to return because I don’t want anything to “muss” with those memories.

Every other day for the next week and a half I will be sharing revised, truncated versions of my time in Australia here.

Oh, Australia. If you only knew what you did to me.
